That sounds way too familiar...... We have had single-digit HIGHS for the last week..... below zero overnight. It's friggin' COLD out there. Today though, we had a heatwave. It got up to 20......
Our high today was 25*.
Hopefully it warms up a little more by the time I have the heads back so I can work.
Theoretically, I am a pretty intelligent guy, and, I am retired, one would think that I would be smart enough to move to a warmer climate...... but no. Here I am, still in Michigan, freezing my nether regions off. So much for 'intelligent', eh?
The rocker arm studs ended up arriving on Friday as originally scheduled so not sure what happened.. These are some NOS items. I'm wondering how many of these do they still have left on the shelves?
They look just like what came in the Crane kit....
Got a tracking number from HiPoTek already and they will be here Thursday. Funniest part is that they are being shipped from Hughes Engines....
Hopefully once I have the Jeep running & driving then I can get my motorhome fixed and I'll be able to snowbird and head south during these cold months.
Problems seem to just keep following me around. I got the heads back onto the engine and put the intake back on.
I must be getting OLD because I managed to mess up my shoulder while putting the heads on. So I ended up having to take 2 weeks off from working on the Jeep.
I installed a new distributor cap & rotor and new plug wires to try and eliminate any & all things that might have been wrong before.
I got the gaskets installed and then set the intake onto the engine.
But once I got it running again I am still having the low oil pressure issue once the engine is warmed up. I'd really hoped that I'd messed up the install on the head gaskets prior to this time or something that had caused the low oil pressure. Also when I went to start it for the first time the engine wouldn't start. Traced it down to a SPARK problem & identified it as the coil being the problem. Luckily I had a spare coil on hand and swapped them out and boom started up.
The Screamin Demon coil is 15+ years old. I don't know the history on the MSD coil so I ordered a Accel coil to have on hand.
It runs but not like I'd hoped and I still have cylinders that are running hotter than others. I have all new Acell 32lb injectors installed now also.
So I'm going to pull the engine back out and replace the main & rod bearings to see if that will fix my low oil pressure issue.
Now when I was assembling the engine I'd made sure to clean out all the oil passages prior to assembly but I'm guessing I must have missed something? So my question for all of you now is that if I'd missed something and it was enough to wipe out the bearings could it/would it be enough to also have taken out the crank? Meaning do I just throw bearings at it or? I don't think I have a micrometer large enough to check the mains & rod journals so can I get an accurate enough measurement with a caliper? I'd also planned on plasti gauge it but would like to do more if possible. What else should I be checking or doing while I have it apart? I hate the idea of having to pull the engine but I can't replace the bearings with it in the Jeep.
I might be tempted to put a mechanical gauge on it, see if it isn't just an electrical problem, though I seem to remember that you verified the pressure was indeed low??? How low???
If you have calipers that will read in thousandths of an inch, you can at least check the journals and such for out of round, etc.
When the pressure drops, do the valves start rattling?
If it has good pressure when cold, but falls off as it warms, I don't think you missed anything....
