Default 95 ram randomly dies, but starts right back up

Hey guys, Im new to all this, and not sure if this is the right area to post, but love reading your forums for answers to some of my problems. I have a problem that has been pestering me for about 3 weeks now. I have a 95 dodge ram 5.9L with 273k on an original motor; I use her for off roading, trailering, and as my daily driver. The last couple of weeks has been giving me a real head scratcher. The truck started to randomly die while i was driving or coasting up to a stop, no specific engine temp, no specific time of driving, just random; but the kicker is the truck will start right up and drive off like nothing happened. No CEL or anything to lead me to the problem. I just changed tps (as recommended by another friend) and the cap and rotor are about 6 months old (pulled them and they look good), plugs are good as well. I am just stumped and hoping someone else has a solution to this.

Thanks

At the risk of spending your money, I say crank sensor. And don't cheap out on it, like a DuraCrap for instance. Maybe try cleaning the IAC, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...n-the-iac.html

And again, if that doesn't work, don't cheap out.

Cool, that will be the next thing that I will try. I cleaned the throttle body about a yr ago, but might be time for a cleaning (with living in Tucson, everything gets dirty/dusty so quick). Also is there any easy way to access the crankshaft position sensor without having to pull all kinds of stuff off the truck?

Thanks

A loose ground or battery cable can do this also, but the crank sensor is most likely the cause.

There is no easy way to get to the crank sensor..... Dodge did it that way on purpose, because engineers HATE mechanics......

Some folks go from up top, others crawl in from underneath...... no matter which way you go, this is a job you are guaranteed to bleed on......

Thanks guys. I will have to try that to see if that works. Also I checked the ground wire, cleaned the battery terminal, but it acted up once right after I left the house, but drove it for about half hour after that, and nothing more. Crank sensor will definitely be next.

I am saying ground wire, clean them all, spray them down with battery terminal dressing. Seriously had the same issue, bad ground. Bad battery will also cause the same issue.

If the battery is low on electrolyte, you use 1 gallon of distilled water & 1 cup epsom salt mixed well to replace what is low. That is real electrolyte in case you were wondering. Never use tap water.

+1 on ALL the ground wires. The one to the engine, engine to fram, batter to fender, engine to firewall......all of them matter. And swap ASD realy with another relay and see if the problem goes away. Don't know if ASD will set a code or not....
