question about chaning tps.
I finally got the screws off for my tps don't know why but I had to soak them for weeks before they busted free .anyway the new tps comes with a rubber O ring and a paper gasket what one do I use?the directions say the tps must be installed so that it can be rotated a few degrees and if the sensor will not rotate install the sensor with the throttle shaft on the other side of socket tangs .the tps will be under slight tension when rotated.(not really sure what that means cant I just put it on and not worry about this? I don't wanna screw anything up.then it says manually operate the throttle by hand to check for any tps binding before starting the engine. my buddy check it for me weeks ago for me and told me it was bad but he's not around to help me he went away for the weekend. I can put the new tps on but not sure what that stuff is all about?can I just put the new tps on and not worry about this stuff or should I wait?just wondering thanks.
Take off the old one. Pay careful attention to any gaskets/orings, and where the little tang goes in relation to the throttle shaft. (disconnect battery before you start.....) Put the new one on, same way the old one came off. Reconnect battery, turn ignition on, (but don't start), count to five, THEN start.
You MUST reset the PCM (that's what disconnecting the battery is all about) for it to learn the new TPS. If you don't, you will have all sorts of interesting driveability issues.

hey thanks I disconnected the negative side only should I disconnect the pos side to or no?once I get the new tps on turn the the ignition on forward (not backwards towards me sitting) but don't start the truck like I'm just turning on the radio without starting?count to 5 one and two and three and 4 and five.like that?if that's right ill do it thanks for the help.also what gasket do the tps use on these trucks the rubber o ring gasket or the paper one cause it came with both but says only use one of them?thanks again.

I just did mine last week. Pretty simple... the o-ring grove was not present on mine so I used the paper gasket. Installed it at about the 2 o'clock position, then rotated it back to 12. Installed the new screws, hooked up the battery, good to go. My instructions said to use the rubber o-ring only if there was a corresponding groove in the throttle body. If not (like mine), go with the paper. I assume the groove would be obvious if it were there.
hey thanks guess i will use the paper gasket then since your trucks only a year older it has to be the same.where would the groove be(if it had one) inside the hole where it mounts on the truck?if so i didnt see a groove there.im not sure why you roatated yours?i looked at the new tps and its set the same way the old one was on the back side cant i just put it on with the paper gasket as hey you said turn ignition on, (but don't start), count to five, Then start?sorry im not much of a mechanic but i can turn a wrench.

I couldn't put mine straight on as the throttle shaft and thetangs in the tps were in the same position. There was a little spring pressure on it once I got it into position but that's ok. Make sure you manually work the throttle just to make sure everything is in position before you tighten it up. Like I said, mine called for paper gasket if no o-ring groove.

They are pretty similar to others I have changed. Breaking the screws loose and/or getting to the darn screws are what usually prove to be problematic. Once that is done, they are pretty easy.
\Glad you got it going and it went well!
