Default 2001 dodge 3500 dually

2001 Dodge 3500 quad cab dually. Alright I need some help. We just got my dually out of the transmission shop so I know it cant be that.. I drove my truck the other day and it worked perfectly fine. I came home turned it off and a couple hours later got back in it to take off. When I started to go down the road it wouldn't shift into second gear. So I took it back home. Nor even if I tried to do it manually. If you push the pedal all the way to the floor it will shut off. Even when I was going up the driveway it shut off. Speed sensor has already been replaced twice now and I just replaced it again with a more expensive one. This is driving me crazy! Also already adjusted the throttle cable. It may be to tight but I'm not sure. Also the truck is an automatic. Thanks in advance.

Might get some better help if you clue us in on what motor you have. My bet is, it's a 360 gas. And when the tranny was swapped, the crank sensor was not removed first, and reinstalled after. Just guessing of course.

By shut off, do you mean the motor stops, or it just loses all power? If you are in neutral will it rev freely all the way up?

If it loses power, I'd suggest changing your fuel filter and bleeding the injector lines. Being a 2nd gen truck with a 24v, I'd also suspect the lift pump is shot. Its super common on those trucks. If that goes bad it stresses the injector pump and that will go bad after a while too.

OK. FIrst sentence....I would not be so quick to rule out a problem in the transmission. Even good shops have come backs for some issues.

Pushing pedal and it dies....Don;t know much about the oil burners here. My only one was a furd with International diesel engine back in the 80's. But injector pump caused similar problem for me once upon a time....

And +1 on checking crank sensor. Maybe take it back to the shop that did the tranny. A good realiable shop will double check the problem to verify that the tranny is not the issue.

Add that info to your sig and profile. Post in the diesel section also. Also, recently there was a member with the same prob. Can't find the thread , sorry. But the crank sensor is on the front of the motor. Near he crank pulley. I'd try replacing it.

When you try to take it out on the street to drive it and get it to shift out of first gear it will rev up to almost full rmp then slow back down to 2000 rmp with the pedal pushed all the way down. Then if you pull in the driveway after doing that and as you come to a stop the truck will die and wont restart. And yes in Neutral it will rev all the way up.

I would have the lift pump checked...... before the injector pump goes belly up as well. Unless you are planning on a P-pump upgrade?

Sounds like the kickdown band is too tight. Try adjusting the bands (unless it is electronically controlled).
