Default performance upgrades for a 360

i have a 98 ram 2500, 360 with a nv4500 behind it. i pull a 4 horse trailer with it and have been having problems pulling hills and maintaining highway speeds, looking for a chip that will give me just enough to do what i need but not so much my girl has problems handling it. i figure any performance upgrades that will give me an extra 50-75 hp without dumping alot of money into it. any sugestions?

How many miles are on it?

Plenum plate been replaced? New plug wire, cap and rotor?

As far as adding 50 hp....It'll be a combination of parts, not one thing alone is going to do that.

1.7 non adj rockers
Ported throtle body
Y pipe & better exhaust, no cats if you can get by with it.
SCT tuner
CAI is over rated
Shorty headers won't add much but everything helps, but 75 hp is going to require heads/cam/intake

And don't forget replacing the timing chain/gear set. That was the single biggest improvement on my truck.

As Adobe said, tune up, plenum, 02 sensors (Cat maybe) and timing set. Then performance parts.
Get your performance back to stock, then go from there.

If you have not done the Plenum, get a Hughes F1 Air Gap intake, if so get exhaust..But thats after you get your performance after stock or tune up.

Port your heads, magnum heads flow is pathetic. also get the necessary upgrades to support new/ported heads

If the plenum gasket is blown, then that is the only performance upgrade needed.

it has 71k on it, and 4.10 rear end, i'll try cleaning the plenum and replacing the gasket first and see how it goes

Cleaning and replacing the gasket alone will do nothing in the long run..... You'll just find yourself right back there doing it again......

lol thats a first I think...
Replacing the plenum pan (hughes replacement, not OEM) and a new gasket, as well as the bolts is what needs to be done if you've got oil on top of the plenum pan.
