Default battery cable question

First time posting

I just picked up a 1996 dodge 1500 ext cab 360 4x4

Runs drives etc, I was going over the truck and I notice there is a smaller black wire coming from the battery cable at the (post) and it isnt hooked up to anything, what is this wire for? You can tell it is part of the battery cable and not aftermarket.

Thanks in advance, I will be posting and reading this site a lot

Rich

If it goes to the negative battery cable, probably a body ground. Look for the other end of the wire where it can reach the body.

If it's to the positive side.... heaven only knows.

I forgot to mention it is the negative side, so I will assume its a body ground wire, as that is about where it would attach.

Thanks for the help

Yes sir, I am from Clinton Township.

I just picked up this truck, as I have always wanted a ram, since my dad built them up untill 93 (medical retirement/Passed that same year) and he always wanted to get a "t-300" as the new body style was called.

So I finally got one and now I get to start the fixing.

Runs great just needs a few things

On my 99 there is a body ground, smaller black wire from negative post, that is attached above the head light on top of fender. There's a post with rubber mount..attach to body anywhere near there, should be good.

There should also be some between fender and radiator support or frame, engine to frame, engine to firewall. Several grounds, all are needed...more is better....
