'96 ram stalling trouble
so i got that SOB installed, seems to idle way better.cant test drive it untill tomorrow, want to get a few more things done before the moment of truth.did have the CEL come on though when i started it,disconnected the battery and will leave it off all night.checked the fuel pressure and have almost 50 psi.so hopefully the problem is solved, will update tomorrow night.
thanks.
thanks.
clear any CEL codes by disconnecting negative battery cable and turning on headlights for 30 seconds. this drains the capacitors that hold pcm memory.
evap codes won't come back for about 2-3 days, until some number of starts/stops/miles, etc accumulate. evap codes are almost always just split vac lines around evap cannister, under hood evap system. cut off rotted ends or replace the pieces of hose. there's all sizes from 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4

thanks guys, got the codes cleared so now thats all good.truck idles better now with new CPS but i found another problem.seems like theres a crap load of vacumn at the PCV valve.when i pull the hose off truck runs way better.im pretty sure i know what that means and it makes me a little angry at myself.did the plenum gasket a few years ago but did not use the hughes kit.now ive got another kegger sitting on the shelf already to go,but im not looking forward to that job.just want you experts to kindly verify that i have identified the problem correctly.time to start reading.
thanks again.
thanks again.
cheers.
PCV is just a controlled vacuum leak. Sounds to me like it is time to pull the throttle body, remove the IAC valve, and clean things out. That's the usual cause of stalling. Especially if it will run with a big vacuum leak.....
How many miles on your truck? have you fixed the plenum?
I have done the plenum on my truck, dealer PCV valve, yet, I am still going thru a quart of oil about every 200 miles..... I consider that "excessive"...... Now, bear in mind, I have 178K miles on my truck..... and I am pretty sure the valve seals are shot. (nice blue cloud when I drive away in the mornings.) I am unsure if valve seals could account for that kind of consumption though. (would be nice if it were that easy...) Truck doesn't smoke at all after the initial first drive of the day.
