think he was refering to me. i used to have a gutted cat, until i installed a high flow direct fit magnaflow.
i used a piece of aluminum pipe, and jammed the sucker in the for a bit, then started it and revved it a bit, then repeated the process until no more honey comb came out.
should i be telling someone how to do this on the interwebs??
also, dont forget to remove the o2 sensors out of the pipe.

Any reason you decided to go to the Magna Flow?
Can you tell me what the model / part number you used is?
Did you have any issues w/ the o2 sensors?
its a direct fit for our trucks, pre-cat o2 sensor is kinda close to the transmission, but it fits just fine. go on summit racing and find it. i think its for the 94-99 trucks, but fits my 01 just fine.
haven't gotten a cel for the precat sensor yet, but i probably wont, i didn't with the gutted cat either.
Ok, so I got the drivers side head off yesterday and disassembled. Somebody had the head off before. How do I know? The exhaust manifold bolts weren't tight like they should have been, there was no gasket for that manifold either. Then the lower head bolts were barely torqued to 30 ft/lbs! So the head gasket was leaking like mad... And strangely the gasket never blew out, just leaked. The valves were bot making a clean seal, and the whole head and valves were carboned up beyond belief. So far head looks whole not cracked. Gonna post pictures soon.

Hey Jon, I can't speak for your rig but mine doesn't use a EM gasket..And better loose than stuck or snapped eh? Most of the time the cracks aren't visable to the eye..Hope I'm not telling you something you don't already know..Are you sending the heads out for work?
Hey Patt, my name is Keagan not Jon! Don't worry though... I was unaware that there weren't gaskets on them, but I have a set of Fel-Pro EM gaskets for it. I just wonder what bright engineer thought that one up...
