Default Radiator ?

Truck - 01 1500 5.2L 4x4

So the top rib of my radiator is bending up. Most likely from leaning over the front of the truck over the years when doing tune-ups, looking down the TB, etc.. It isn't leaking yet but I decided to look at radiators tonight as I will replace it before a problem develops.

Anyway... to the point. I am surprised there are more than one radiator between the 5.2 and 5.9L.

If I look it up at autozone, it says I should get a CU1552, and if I look it up for a 1500 5.9, it says CU2291.

What prompted the problem was when i looked at Napa to compare price and saw the CU2291 for my 5.2L truck listed.

Bottom line... does the 5.9 one have an extra core? The spec numbers are slightly different in height and width. Would I benefit from the 5.9 radiator, or stick to what it says. I ran into this same issue with Spectra parts in the past when i put in my heater core. Two different numbers (one flex pipe, one hard line). Wish they could make this easier.

Are they both from the same manufacturer? If so, go with the meaner radiator. If you are going to replace it anyway, why not upgrade? It should bolt right in, and hook right up.

Both from the same manufacturer. I'm not sure if one is meaner than the other lol. One does cost more than the other though (about 50ish from autozone)... but i'm surprised there is a difference between a 5.2 rad and 5.9 rad to begin with. I was hoping someone may have known the difference between the two for the extra cost.

btw, 20k posts? Impressive

Either of them should bolt into the radiator support. Checking part numbers for rad support, it is the same regardless of engine. I did not see a differnce in part number for radiator either, but I got distracted. If one has more cooling capacity, I would get that one...more rows or thicker would probably be the only way it would be different. Have AZ call their VDP line to have them check....

I think "post *****" is the term you are looking for.

Seems the 1552 is an inch taller core, but not quite as wide.....
