Default 1998 dodge ram 1500 Problems Shifting

Figured i would toss my problems up here seeing as there are so many great minds on this forum.

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 every thing seems to run fine on it but while driving the transmisson wont shift up. you are able to get it to shift up if you let off the gas and the reapply this will nurse it into the next gear. I am able to do this and get into all gears. Down shifts just fine and seems to be able to idle fine i know this is not alot of information but just looking for a place to start. Any ideas?

Have you checked fluid level? Does it smell "burned" to you? When's the last time it was changed?

Drop the pan, see what the filter looks like. Check the governor pressure sensor and solenoid as well, see if they aren't clogged up with crap.

Sounds exactly like what mine started doing after the CEL lit up and it threw a code for the transmission output speed sensor. I have to give the gas a few light taps to get it to shift up a gear. I haven't put the new sensor in yet to know if that fixes it for me. Gotta get my gas tank off the ground first!

This same exact thing happened when my 1997 had to get the transmission changed, except this sounds worse. I had to nurse the 2-3 shift but it never pulled any error codes. How many miles are on it?

Default Dakota trans problem

It has 93,000 miles on it. I'm hoping it's nothing more than a connection probem or bad governor sensor!

Mine started doing same thing around 150,000 never changed fluid. Took it to a shop and they changed fluid, adjusted what was left of bands and cleaned up a bit, for couple hundred, that got me another 15,000 miles ,then it was rebuild time. 1629.00

sry for taking so long to get back to this guys. Well after dropping the pan i come to find that this wonderful truck i bought has a blown tranny. All is said and down now replaced the tranny and now have a great running truck. Time to start working on mods for it :P that is after the wife has cooled down from the tranny cost!
