Default Trans temp light comes on for a sec

I changed my trans fluid on my 99 ram 2500. I drove it for about 900 miles towing my travel trailer with no problems. The next day the trans temp light came on for a sec then goes off almost everytime I let off the gas now. It does not matter if I drive ten feet on 10 miles. It does not always come on. It only comes on when slowing down.

Time for a new sensor methinks.

You didn't tow in overdrive did you?

welcome to DF.
if you haven't already done so, you should remove the check valve at the junction of the hard line/hose just prior to the radiator cooler. lots of posts here about that. its prone to clog up, prevent oil flow, leads to over-heating and trans failure.

also, if the truck hasn't had regular atf service over the last 5 years, you should change the fluid and filter a second time, since regular service only removes about half the fluid and is prone to loosen sludge and put it in motion.

this is a question? will a simple scanner read the dodge transmission temp sensor reading from the pcm, or is it another one of those special things that require the expensive dodge scanner.

No I don't tow in overdrive. I was thinking about tryinga new sensor or changing the oil and filter again. The light doesn't stay on to read a code. Trans is not hot when light comes on.

Either a bad sensor, or a wiring issue. I don't think mine comes on at the initial 'bulb test' when starting. Which seems kinda odd....

+1 on check valve fluid might be able to get to the cooler very well because the check ball is gunked up

And if you add fluid make sure its ATF +4...and when you check the level make sure its running in neutral.. park does not give accurate readings
