felpro usually makes good gaskets. honestly, i'll never use a rubber gasket again. ever. i've had way too many problems with those damn things, even WITH rtv...lol

Really? I haven't ever heard this. I'm guessing the materials don't mix well?

 

the RTV makes the rubber gasket slippery and squishy. when you go to tighten the bolts to the proper torque, in my experiences, the rubber gasket gets pushed out and leaks like a SOB. even with the proper torque. so i say screw rubber gaskets all together.

You need to let the RTV setup a some, before installation. And it sounds like you are using too much.

 

eh, i still dont like rubber gaskets lol. i prefer the felpro material stuff, and they usually reinforce their gaskets with a metal of some kind to make it stiff and NOT floppy lol

Yeah... Rubber, Viton, whatever the hell the NOT cork gaskets are made of. Mine was some variety of flexible material, with metal reinforcing. (fel-pro) Fit up nice, sealed nice, no leaks on the driveway. I DO need to figger out where my oil is going though....

 

Me too, no leaks, but loss of oil. And only 98K on the clock.

 

i'm oddly ok with it disappearing. as long as its not a massive amount in a short period of time. i mean, i would imagine over a period of time, oil would just get consumed anyway in small portions.
