hard starting
I have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 sport with the 5.9L when i first got it you only had to crank it for a few seconds before it ran and now it has to crank for maybe 30 seconds before it starts any ideas what wrong

Did you read zman's reply? It's part of the fuel pump.
Well I'm not sure if that's a part you can replace separately or if you have to purchase a whole new pump.... One of the guys will know.....
But a fuel pressure test is the best way to test it. See how long it takes to build pressure and how fast the rails loose pressure and what the running PSI is.

with ignition turned to on, test the fuel pressure at the test port on the fuel rail, drivers side of engine. looks like a tire valve. should be 49 psi +/- 5
if not up to spec, replace fuel pump assembly, conveniently located..... in the tank. to replace, drop the tank or raise the bed. i think its easier to raise the bed, that way you can test it before dropping the bed, vs having to raise the tank and reconnect.
