Default Tow Chart

Is there a chart anywhere that shows late 90's to early-mid 2000's towing capacity? I am looking for a extended/quad cab that will tow 12000 lbs. Don't really care if gas or diesel as I will tow very infrequently, but I just want the ability to tow if needed. I would prefer diesel but not sure if diesel and gas trucks tow different weights. Thanks

According to that site, a 1995 2500 4x4 v10 can tow 1300 lbs more than the same truck with a Cummins. That doesn't seem right. Think it's just bad information? Or is there really something to that?

I could ask my coworker as he has a 1995 v10 4x4, nv4500 and rear dana 80. Standard cab and loooooooong box.

V-10 has more torque and horsepower than the diesel in STOCK form.

My 1996 owners manual says 19,000lbs gcwr for the 2500HD V10 4x4, trans = all, axle ratio = all, or 13,200 lbs trailer weight. Book does not spec about reg cab or long box.

Engine power isn't the only thing factored into towing ratings. Find the Gross Combined Weight Rating and subtract the weight of the truck, you, and anything else in your truck. You'll end up with the max trailer weight.

This is the same reason Quad cab 4x4 trucks typically have a lower towing rating than a Regular cab 2wd, even if they have the exact same powertrains.

If you're going to be towing 13,000 pounds on a regular basis, buy a newer safer truck.
