replacing 5.2l manual with 5.9 v8 out of auto
Hey guys i know there are similar threads out there but i just need some feedback so i'm making a new one. Is there anyway to get my flywheel from my 318 balanced to match the balance of the 360 flexplate?? i have the flexplate that came off the 360 i got at the junkyard today but i want to stick with my manual transmission. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
Doubtful. I'm putting a lot more torque than a 5.9 through my NV3500 and it's held up for about 40k miles, tranny has around 215k on it.
hahns i love your turbo set up. i've been looking at it recently. i would like to do the same kind of thing but but the turbo in the bed and just run a stack off of it. and i want to make a standalone oil filter/oiltank/pump in the bed since my truck is used for mudding and i don't want to blow a line. But to subject! will any 5.9 flywheel do? or does it need to be specifially balanced for my motor? also will i need to change the crankshaft sensor? my pcm should still work right? otherwise i'll just bring the motor back and say f it for now cuz i have to go back to college in NY in 4 weeks so i don't have much time left.
Any 360 flywheel for a manual will work. (so long as it is designated as being for your year truck. there were some changes over time....)
Check and see if the parts store shows different numbers for the crank sensors for auto vs. manual trans.

Automatics use a flexplate, it is what the torque converter bolts to, and the flexplate in turn bolts to the crankshaft. Manuals use a flywheel, it is bolted to the crankshaft and has the clutch mounted to it and is what the clutch applies to to complete the mechanical connection between engine and trans.
I do believe the 360 is externally balanced and the 318 is internally balanced also.
so with that being said, I would look for the correct year flywheel for your engine application.
