Default cruise control help needed

So my eyes are red from reading all of the posts on cruise control &I think I've missed something. So this is what's going on no cruise...when I push the button th turn it off you can feel the click but nothing when I go to set it to turn it on.I've checked all of the vac lines all seems fine, the fuse is good the cable seems good my brake lights are working correctly any ideas?
About a month ago I went to turn in on&it didn't engage but I was only doing about 30 so I got on hwy &it worked@65 70 so I was guessing maybe it just didn't work till a certain speed but today even@70 nothing...any ideas?

Cruise gets power from fuse 10 in the block on the side of the dash. (white/red wire going to cruise switch.) Make sure you have power there on the steering wheel side of the clock spring.

Look at your window washer bottle, just up from the bottom there is another spot/ level sender for that to plug into.

Pull the covers off the steering column, see if you can identify what wires go where. Wiring diagrams are in the service manual, 8W-33 (vehicle speed control). Their troubleshooting doesn't really cover the "light won't go on", or "light comes on, then goes off" situation though.
