Default Passenger door issue

Okay,

I'm new to the forum, so if I'm posting this in the wrong place, just let me know. Anyway, on to the post...

So, I have a 98 Dodge 1500 5.2L, and I can't use the automatic lock on the driver's side to lock/unlock the passenger door. I can hear what sounds like a motor trying to perform the task, but to no avail.

I've seen a few similar posts on here, but nothing that I felt described my exact problem. (if you're wondering why I don't just unlock the door with the key, it's because whoever had the truck before me had that feature disabled [retarded])

Anyway, I've heard a few different reasons as to why this is happening, but I'm just looking for a straight answer. Is the switch bad? Is it the actuator? Maybe a motor?

Help!

Thanks to any advice given.

Need to open up the door, and see what's happening. Use the right tool for the clips that hold the panel in place, otherwise, they break VERY easily.

Well I did that, but after taking off the panel, I wasn't able to see anything happening. It was literally on the absolute inside of the door. I guess I'll just take it to the dealer.

Any independent shop should be able to help you, don't take it to the dealer... they will rape you with their over-inflated labor rate......

Yeah, yer right, I think the solenoid etc. for the locks is actually part of the latch mechanism.... Might want to check and clean all your connections on both switches before paying someone else to look though....

If you are up to it, fine the solenoid for the passenger door, spray some cleaner on it if it is the exposed type then after it dries, spray on some lube. If that fails replace it. The switch itself may be bad. I have not tore into 1 form a dodge but plenty of GM & toyotas units. The bottom where the switch plugs in would look or smell burnt - sometimes. Otherwise they just start to fall apart internally. If this is daunting to you, take it to an auto electric specialist - they are better at this than dealerships - at least in my area.

Check my last post. I just fixed my rear door. It gets stuck sometimes. All it was, was a bolt that need to be tightened up. Its behind the rear door handle latch mechanism. If that doesnt make sense and let me know I will try to snap some photos for you .
