Default Advice on 2000 Ram 1500

Hello All
A problem just popped up on my truck the other day and I would appreciate some advice. When I cranked it up the other day the "Brake" and "ABS" lights stayed on (brakes worked fine), then driving it I noticed the speedometer wasn't working either and then next the "Check Engine" light came on and remains on. Today I held in the trip odometer button in while turning on the key to get the error code, no code was displayed. If I did this correctly shouldn't the code show up during the self check?

I replaced the speed sensor on the transmission output last year when the speedo stopped working but I don't remember the brake lights being on. At that time an error code was displayed. Any ideas?

Thanks
Steve Rambin

welcome to df. fill out your signature with truck info.

pull the codes on the later models by turning ignition to on - off - on - off - on

test gauges by turning ignition on while holding in trip meter.

reset pcm and cel codes by disconnecting neg battery cable and turning on headlights for 30 sec. it drains capacitors and memory.

Thanks for all of the great info and moving my thread to the right place. I didn't spot the notice until after I posted ( I always read the instructions last).

glad you got your truck fixed, but post your solution back in the original thread rather than starting a new one. we're not smart enough to tie them all together.
