Default Throttle Position Sensor question

Hey all I have a question related to a problem with the throttle position sensor in my 5.9.

I want to start off by saying that I am 100% positive that the tps is bad. I tested it by removing the sensor from the throttle body and my idle dropped to normal.

My problem is that when I go to secure the sensor on the tb, I have to turn the sensor slightly to get the bolt holes lined up. This ends up turning the inside part of the sensor so it thinks that I'm on the accelerator.

Now, what I want to know is whether a new sensor will compensate for this turn, already be assembled so the turn will set it at the right voltage, or if there is a value in the ecu that sets an idle voltage that can get out of whack.

its normal that you have to twist the tps slightly to align the shaft. the pcm will understand it. you can probe the wires in the connector and see the idle voltage be something like .6 or .8 or something.

the TPS is a tempermental little bastard that's prone to failure. just replace it for about $35-50 at any parts store.

what is yours doing? surging rpm? that's a bad TPS.

That tps can cause some wacky issues. Got a durango with the 5.9 aswell and its got a bad tps. Dies all the time and has issues staying started. Definitely replacing on payday.

Don't forget, after you replace it, disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the computer.

This is the most important step in the procedure. Reseting the computer will force it to 're-zero' its various sensors. This is CRITICAL with the TPS, and IAC.

Disconnect the negative battery cable first, before replacing any sensors. Not only will you reduce the risk of damaging a new sensor, but the PCM will be reset during the time you check or replace the part.

Well I disconnected the neg battery cable and replaced the tps. Still have a high idle. Since I've already replaced the iac as well, I'm suspecting the throttle stop screw on the tb might be out of adjustment. Does this sound like a possibility? If so, any tips on adjusting it? I know it's not really meant to be adjusted but it has to be possible. This is all I can think of because when the tps is off the tb it idles normally.

Never heard of throttle stop screw you can adjust.
Did u check for vac leaks? There is a short piece of hose that go from MAP sensor to intake that's kind of hidden or gasket leak where TB sits on keg. Also did you clean the port good where pintle of IAC closes against in TB?

Hey Ya'll can I jump in this discussion? I have a '98 Caravan 3.0 that I suspect the TCM is bad on. It "WAS" giving me the as yet unsolved intermittent skip when hot after shut off and restart. In other words, it ran perfect until you stopped somewhere and the heat built up under the hood when I cut it off and the fans stopped running, then when restarted it had a bad miss. I replaced T-stat, CTS, PCV, plugs and wires, cap and rotor, oil, and even flushed and new coolant. Oh and cleaned all elec conn, and ran some hi-$ injector cleaner. I think it finally quit when the temps stopped getting to 100 degrees everyday! But now... runs fine except on takeoff it kind of stutters like a clogged injector, but no other time. Just on when it's in 1st gear (auto)and only at low rpm, if I goose it, it clears right up or if you just ride it out for a second it quits! Does this sound like the TPS to you guys? Thank you so very much for any help you can give.

A bad TPS on 2nd gen ram trucks will usually present with RPM surging of 200 or 300 rpm's.
