Timing chain and gears come as a set. You can't replace just one component.

If you line up the dots on the gears before you pull them, putting the new set back on is cake.

Jack up the front end and grab your tire and see if you can get it to wobble at all. Make sure it is not the balljoints that have the play in them. If it is the wheel bearing you can replace just the one, no need to replace the other one if it is still good. Though repacking it with new grease would not be a bad idea.

But if he has a 4x4, repacking the bearings might be a little tough

4wd unit bearings are not grease-able or serviceable, R&R job. Check the u joints in the front diff, both ends pass and drivers side.

If you have wobble up and down with the wheel then it is more than likely ball joints, if it is side to side then it is more than likey a wheel bearing. I havent done a wheel bearing on a ram 4x4 yet so i cant give you any other advice but if it has gotten bad then you might need a 3 jaw puller to remove it completely.
