Default just another noob with a transfer case?

I have a 97 Ram 1500 4wd 5.9. when I shift my transfer case into 4h front wheels lock and will not turn at all but rear wheels will spin. I have rebuilt several transmissions' but have never cracked open a transfer case. So I took it out and found 2 things in the bottom of the case' stuck to the magnet. According to the ram manual it was a Synchro Strut And Spring. I know that it was rebuilt before I got the truck and and I have checked every thing out inside and every thing seems good other than those 2 pieces fell out. I was wondering if any1 else has had this problem?

Since I have finally joined this forum after looking up things on here for years, I just want to say thank you to all who have posted on here and I have learned a lot of little things to make repairs on my Dodge easier!!!!

I would check your spider gears in the front diff.

If spider gears were gone 2wd would be a problem too because the axle shafts wouldnt be able to spin at all....i believe..i may be wrong

If the CAD is disconnecting properly it would not be noticed while in 2wd.

We have 2 piece axle shafts on the passenger (long) side, and there is a collar that slides over to make them one. Any torque transmitted through the diff is sent through the path of least resistance, which when it's not engaged is the free axle shaft. It may not be that, but with the amount of information provided by the OP, one can only guess...

Im not doubting you...im just learning....ive taken apart my entire front end a couple times...shafts, carrier the whole nine...i just though that since driver shaft goes right into the carrier it would spin the diff...and i know the collar locks the shafts...its the drivers side i was thinking that spun the diff since there is no collar...

Sorry for hijack...i just love learning new things

It was just a random suggestion, as most people never inspect that stuff until it explodes and leaves them stranded, then they blame the 15 year old truck for being a POS Dodge haha.
