Default Sunpro Super Tach II Wiring

I am trying to install a Sunpro Super Tach II in my 1994 Ram 4x4 5.2L automatic. The instructions say to hook the green wire to the ignition coil. The green wire is what sends the RPM signal to the tach. I've spliced into both wires coming off the bottom of the coil. Tach won't work. Then I tried to wrap the wire around the plug wire coming off the top of the ignition coil. Tach still won't work. Truck wouldn't even start. All the other wires are wired correctly. Am I trying to wire it to the wrong thing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW, the truck does not have a factory tach, has 222,000 miles on the original motor, and runs like a champ. Gas mileage sucks though. Thanks!

Are you sure you have a good ground? I did a tach in my 93 nissan 4x4 and it had no factory tach....wired it into coil with no problem.....now theres a switch to put it either on 4cyl, v6, or v8....is yours set to v8?

I know the nissan is a completly different truck....but i also used a sunpro tach

Yes ground is good. I even sandpapered down to bare metal. But I did so at a point where something else was also grounded just so I could use a convenient screw. Could that be an issue? The Sunpro directions say for Chrysler distributorless ignition systems set the tach to 4 cylinders regardless of actual cylinders your engine has. But, I've tried on 4 and 8 with no luck.

Yes the screw may be grounding it out...wire you ground into an exsisting ground...dont do it like you did jus splice wires and see if that works

That's probably why the truck wouldn't start

You should keep your distributor installed when you're wiring your tach.

It does. Sorry, I was just referencing the instructions trying to say I've tried everything (even the 6 cyl setting) and didn't phrase that sentence very well. I paid $30 for it at AutoZone so you get what you pay for I guess.
