Question 3rd gen wheels on 2nd gen

I found some third gen 17" wheels on craigslist and wanted to know if they would fit. After hours of searching through various threads I am left even more confused on whether they fit or they need spacers to fit or if you have to bore something or the other out, or what. I need definite answers.

Some of the newer ones, not sure starting in what years, do require a little machining to clear the hubs, if that's the case, find a machine shop. Shouldn't be a big deal or expensive...

I have 3rd Gen 20's on my 96 4X4 1500.

No machine shop or spacers needed for mine. Not sure about others.

Anyone know of someone with a 2wd that has 3rd gen rims that might be able to provide some insight?

My truck came stock with 16" rims, I put some 17" ORE wheels from an '03 Ram, and they fit fine, BUT, they were also available on the '00 and '01 Off Road Edition Rams, so not a huge upgrade....

Do you know what year truck those rims were on?

I have the 17" wheels from a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 on my 1999 Ram 1500 Sport. I used wheel adapters that were custom made in California. They were $75 a piece. They are 1/2 inch deep adapters and have 1/2 inch holes for the stock lug bolts and 9/16 lug bolts for the 17" wheels.

This was about 5 years ago, but I am going to put some aftermarket wheels on there in a couple of weeks and then try to sell these wheels and adapters. These are the wheels that I am going to put on the truck.
