well, my buddy picked up a 99 1500 sport yesterday, and today, wjile working on it, i broke a distributor cap bolt off in the distributor.

anyone have a fix for it? the proper way would be nice! if not, ill just use zip ties once i get the other bolt out, if it ever comes out.

I don't see why the proper way to do it would be any different just because it's in the distributor.

If it ever happens to me, I'm going to pull the distributor out and attempt to remove the broken fastener by unscrewing it -- I like to cut a slot for a screwdriver when possible, but have been known to use a fine punch or even a pick with a small hammer to coerce the broken fastener to turn until it can be gripped with pliers. Failing that a screw extractor (EZ Out) comes next. If all else fails it's Heli-Coil time, or maybe that cool thread repair epoxy stuff (Permatex P/N 81668 Stripped Thread Repair Kit).

Then it's off to get fuel sync put back to right... oh joy oh boy fun fun!

PS: Because they're prone to breakage, I always apply ye olde hammer of corrosion busting force and some penetrating oil to those fasteners before trying to remove them. So far, so good.

Dist cap bolts are tiny, and the part of the dist they go thru is fairly thin..... might be able to grab it from the bottom, and thread it out that way. Of course, doing that while the dist is in the truck is gonna be damn near impossible....... Just mark where every points before you take it out, and don't move anything till you get it back together.

Seems they got it back together ok. I'll do the fuel sync after they get some other issues fixed.
