Default Wining Noise

I have a wining noise coming from my drive train some where, we know its from the transmission back, ive had people ride and listen with me, all with different ideas. one is the transmission, i dont know what would be wining in that, another said the transfer case, and another said the pinion bearing. Any ideas what it might be. its a 2001 dodge ram 1500 with manual transmission. Thanks

If it relates to engine speed it's low fluid or the shift cable is routed incorrectly..if it's not related to engine speed let us know..

I just changed all my fluids this past weekend, i can really hear it around 35 and 55 mph, and when slowing down its bad too. i thought it was tire noise but i jacked up the rear end and i put it in gear and it still did it.

Axle shaft, pinion gear bearing or differential.. but the pinion gear bearing will usually be constant and louder at a faster speed..axle bearing noise will not be noticeable till at least 30mph..prob looking at axle bearing...let us know how it goes

Mine started the same thing Friday evening on an out of town trip. I can kick it to neutral and it goes away. And it sometimes comes and goes on its own. What is the best way to verify what it is. Sone said sound slike rear axle bearing while he was riding in the back to listen to it.

when my pinion bearings were shot, the whining was most prevalent at 35 to 45 and actually whined more if coasted a bit , then give it little pedal and would be louder.
Drove around for a year like that.
