it is either a 46re or 46rh. more than likely a 46re though. I think the v6's might have used the 42rh and 42re but the v8's used the 46rh and 46re. you could call a dealership with the VIN and find out for sure.

If its a V8 you got the 46re... 96 and older is the 46RH... Dakotas had the 42re or rh

I've heard that '97 was the last year for the 46rh and the first year for the 46re. I could be wrong but that's just what I heard and I would imagine that the early 97's would have the 46rh and the later ones got the 46re, if in fact both were available on the 97 Ram's.

Either way the best way to find out would be to call or go to your local Dodge dealer with the VIN code, rather than trusting what people tell you.

1996 was the first year of the 46RE. 1995 and older were 46RH.

Dakotas used the same transmissions if they were V8s.

Also, for future reference:

+1 that 97 would be a 4xRE.

if V8, 5.2 or 5.9, its a 46RE
if V6, 3.9, its a 42RE.

if we don't know the engine, i don't know how to tell by looking. sorry.
if nobody else knows, call wittrans or TCI and ask what to look for.

that's weird, PK52119822AA is the part #, 1199 is the build date, and 6678 is the serial #. If the trans was made in Nov. of '99 it must of been replaced at some time.

That would still be a 46RE.
