Default Jet performance chip

I recently bought a jet stage 1 performance chip for my truck and was wanting input on someone else who has one. My question is, does your truck randomly cut out when your driving? I put mine in and everything seemed to work fine. Some horsepower and mileage gain. But a couple days later i went on a 2 hour trip and it started to feel like it was missing but i just forgot about it since i was almost there. On the way back it got worse so i took the chip out and it worked fine then. Now i put the chip back in and thought it was fine until the other day it started doing it again but then hasn't done it since.

The Jet chip is snake oil. What's happening is that your PCM is learning the thing and trying to get everything back to normal. Throw the chip away, and buy a tuner.

^^^ This. Jet chips are junk. As UU said, take it out and throw it away. If you have a '97 as your handle states, get an SCT from Hemifever. www.hemifevertuning.com

I've got the Jet chip in mine for about 6 years now. Don't recall any power gains when it was installed. i do get mysterious gremlins from time to time. After being on this site the past couple months, I'm taking it out and going with a tuner.

Another reasonable option when it comes to tuners is the superchips 3815. You can find them on ebay for around $200. I've heard they aren't quite as good as the sct when it comes to performance but the superchips offers speedo adjustment for tire size on top of all the tunes (fuel eco, 87 performance, 91 performance, tow/haul) and the engine code reader. Not sure if sct does all that or not. But if your going strictly based on performance, sct is prob the best for the extra $65

Not for a 1997 it's not. And for early 1998 vehicles the tire size correction doesn't work, either.

I stand corrected.

several years ago the jet chip was popular for awhile. some people reported that the piggy-back nature of it hanging out of the pcm caused damage to the pins.

some reported severe pinging.

others reported the truck cutting out/stalling/etc.

throw the damn thing away.

So I took a trip, 250 miles on the interstate, average speed 75-80 mph. Did a fuel check when I got to my destination @ 12.2 mpg. My return trip I removed the Jet Performance chip, drove the same route in return 250 miles at 75-80, mpg improved, @ 14.5. Not saying the chip had anything to do with it however, I found no difference in performance. The truck still pulls hard even at 80 mph, will still kick down into passing gear. If anyone is looking to purchased a jet performance chip, IM me, I have one for sale....cheap.

I dont think you are going to find any 2nd gen guys on here that will buy that.. Most of us here know they are worthless and dont do anything.. Might try selling it on craigslist or just give it away.
