Default Steering Column on Steeringbox Pulling Out

So i had put a 3in body lift on my truck last weekend and we had skipped the steering extension because firstly we couldn't get the shaft to pull out of the box with the bolt loose and secondly when we got it lifted we saw no binding and assumed it was fine. It appears that it may have pulled out of the steering box somehow, maybe 1/4 inch if that. My question now is how much of the thread is still on there before it completely comes out? and should i try putting my adaptor on it, which is 4 inches longer then what i can even get the shaft to pull out?

any ideas? i dont wonna be driving and loose all steering.

There is a bit left on there, but, I am real curious how it managed to pull out with the bolt still in there. Might be able to put the extension on a little easier now though.... That IS something you want to address NOW. Losing your steering is FAR to exciting.

Chems, take the bolt completely out, and a pry-bar.
