1996 Dodge Ram 1500 transfer case identification issue
Can anyone help me identify which assembly # my np231 tcase is. It exploded and the section that had the ID plate went MIA. Help!!! It has a 5.9 with auto, and its a manual shift tcase, gas engine. Thanks for the help.
All the salvaged around here say there are 2 different ones and they do not interchange. Apparently the assembly numbers are the deciding factor. The inputs are w different lengths. One is 4.25", the other is 5". Have you guys heard of this at all. I really need to find one soon. Also, what is the electrical connection for? It has electrical, vacuum, and it has manual shift??? I am stumped, this is my first dodge. Thanks for the help.
That is awesome, thanks so much. The jy has been giving me a heart attack about this. I am tryin g to upload pics of the truck, but having fits getting them to load from my phone. I only paid 400 for the truck it has a little over 100k on the new 360 and trans, but the tcase was factory and has 200k on it when it exploded. I hope to have it done Monday. I pulled the pieces of the old one today, so just got to reinstall.
Okay, I took the advice I was given, and dropped 450 on a jy tcase out of a 1996 halfton automatic. It doesn't fit. The output shaft is roughly 3/4 inch too long and they won't take it back. Is it possible to swap the output shaft from my old tcase??
