I had the Superchips 3865 and recently converted to the SCT tuner and while both do the job...the SCT is better.

One reason being that Hemifever removes the Torque Management that our trucks have that holds our trucks back when shifting thus giving it a smoother shift.

source: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...t-and-sct.html

When removed, it will allow the engine to hold the torque into the next shift and gives you that feeling that was missing. Of course a good shift kit can produce the same result but at least the motor won't be held back in either case.

The Superchips was a nice tuner but it just piggybacks off the original configuration that Dodge already had and adjusts your timing curve a bit. Plus it does adjust for tire sizes. You will lose that with the SCT.

Another reason is that the SCT can hold custom tunes if you go that route later and want to add more mods that the Superchips limits you with.

Both will read and clear your trouble codes too if any arise.

update:
just flashed my truck with the 87 tune, then stepped it up to the 91 with no pinging. i feel a difference, although its not huge like some of you guys said. lets hope and see if i get better mpg or at least win in a 2nd street race against my buddies 5.9, then ill be happy.

although i'm still waiting until spring to do my plenum and timing chain, among many other small things maybe that's the issue too?

3.55 gears are tough to get a good seat of the pants feel. Those gears just don't let it wind up quick.

Brian_ , as for yours those 35 x 12.50's will remove probably 25% of what folks would normally feel due to the engine load those big ole tires nail ya for.

blown plenum makes a tuner a bad idea. Timing is a bit more aggressive on those tunes, and that's gonna make it even more prone to knock.

I get mine either tomorrow or Thursday probably. I don't wanna plug it in until I switch the thermostat to 180 though.

Are you running 87 gas with the 91 tune?

yes 91 tune on 87 gas.
ill probably switch back to 87 tune run it down to E, fill it up with 91, and put 91 tune on. i haven't drove the truck at all today, but it was running fine in my opinion heard no weird noises. did WOT pretty quick to 60. ill have to figure out the 0-60 times with my scanguage II.
just wish it was spring that way i could knock out this top end engine stuff

All the stations around here have 87,89, and 93.
