96 -early 99s use the same OD & lockup solenoid. late 99s and up use the same OD & lockup solenoid. 78 -98 uses a round black neutral safety switch with 3 pins.For 99s they changed the neutral switch to a rectangular white plug with 3 pins. In 2000 they changed to a 5 pin big plastic switch
If you look above the pan on the drivers side there will be some numbers stamped on the case most of the time they start with PK. The next 8 numbers are the part# for that transmission. Also if there's fins above the rear servo it's a A618. Diesel and V10s have a moon shaped cut out at the bottom of the bell housing for a bigger torque converter.

so is there a difference between 1500 and 2500 46RE’s from the same year? Reason I’m asking is because my tranny went out on my 2001 2500 5.9 gas. Drove 6 hours to get a rebuilt transmission from a so-called 46RE guru. Got it home and saw it’s missing a bolt hole in the bell housing bolt pattern! The back of my 360 has a threaded bolt hole at dead center 12-o’clock. The transmission does not. The tranny shop swears the trannys are interchangeable between 1500 and 2500. So do I just not put in the extra bolt that my block originally enjoyed at 12-o’clock?? I searched the ID number that’s on the tranny that he sold me (52119846) and see that it’s listed as a half ton tranny! Am i just going to install a ticking time bomb or are they really interchangeable???

What's the difference between the 46 and 47 series trans for the 98 2500 4x4 w/ 5.9L mpi?

47 is a bit more stout, however, the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. Won't fit the V-8 engines, its for the V-10, and diesel engines.

Default I have a 2000 Dodge Ram with 6.3 tranny is out.
Got another tranny just want to check see if it will work in my truck .

95 trans won't work in a 96 or newer truck. 95 was the last year of the RH version, 96 was first year of the RE version. There were some other changes over the years as well to the electronics, and neutral safety switch. You cannot make the older trans work properly in the newer truck.

sorry again!! It came out of a 1999 Dodge Durango
