When cranking the engine does pressing the gas pedal help at all? Like does the truck try to start when you press the gas pedal? I had intermittent starting problems with my truck until I replaced my coolant temp sensor.

If the sensor looks damaged, replace it. Iirc it was pretty cheap and if it is damaged it will give you problems in the future if it isn't already the problem

After tracing and retracing my situation ive found that my rotor on my distributor is pointing at my number 8terminal on my distributor instead of number one.my timing mark is on tdc and number one cylinder is at the top.it appears that my distributor may be a tooth off .does anyone know the process for fixing this and couuld it be possi le that it ran this way before my repairs.it was running but really weak on bottom end and used an unusual amt.o f fuel

Someone probably must marched the plug wires around, to make it run.... of course, that would leave injector phasing off... so it wouldn't run as good as it should.

There should be a mark on the block, and a notch in the distributor body, and they both need to line up with the rotor with number one at TDC. That sets the base, and should let the engine run well enough to get somewhere they can accurately set fuel sync.

Depends..... if everything lines up good without pulling the dist, leave it. If you have to pull it, only move it one tooth at a time, until things look right. Bear in mind, seeing ANYTHING back there is a right bitch with the intake in place.

Magnet might work, better be a strong one though. The tool I try and use is what I call a "grabby thingy"...... (yeah, nice technical term there....) Works pretty good, just gotta twist a bit while you lift.

May also be able to use a long screwdriver to turn it out as well. Good Luck.
