Default 1994 shifting problem

Hey guys!

Looked around a bit but did not find what I have...

my 94 2500 is getting up there in age and mileage (180000 miles) all on the original powertrain, and it's been pushing snow since 1995. Last summer I had to take it for a week because my 05 was in the shop, and I noticed that once at operating temp, the tranny would shift at higher speeds than normal, up to not getting out of first gear at all. Checked oil, bright red, tranny cooler is full. I got back on the road and it shifted fine after being on Park for 5-7 minutes. It was real hot out there so I figured it got hot.

I had to use it again today as it's my spare plow, and it did the same thing, but this time it was very cold out. I put it in park at a stop sign and back in gear and it shifted fine for maybe 1 hour, then started all over, put her in Park again and it shifted fine the rest of the way...maybe another hour.

What would cause this? And why does it go away when I put in Park and in gear again??

Thanx!!

What's engine temp doing when it starts misbehaving?

With 180K on the clock, and being a plow truck for 8 years...... I would suspect it was getting on toward rebuild time.

I would say it's time for a rebuild then. It's all purely mechanical, no electronic controls at all, aside from TCC, and O/D.... which I would like to think you never see when plowing...... (one would hope. )

Yeah...was thinking the same, but I may go for a higher performance tranny, maybe, if the price is right. And no loll, I don't even use the OD just city driving, I love that OD off button. If speed limit is 35 or lower, that light is shining my man !!

Probably just some crap floating around in the trans. Trans in park does NOT circulate fluid thru the cooler, or torque converter... might have something to do with it.

If you haven't already done so, remove the anti drain back valve in the transmission cooler line just before the cooler. Especially if you suspect junk in your trans. fluid. It will most likely plug up leading to no flow through the cooler, overheat the trans., and no more trans.
