You may find this to be an interesting read.... Granted, there aren't really any mountains in Iowa...... but, if you get into an accident, whether or not it is your fault, the consequences of being overloaded are going to suck.

It's not OPs responsibility remember...it's Dad's truck!!!

Is this classic..."we've always done this and nothing happened so it's ok" syndrome?

I +1 everyone's comments (redneck, UU, dlyter, WR, Merc, etc.) regarding how IRRESPONSIBLE this extremely overloaded trailer/vehicle combination is here.

You don't learn very well do you? We don't care for the build sheet actually as it doesn't justify your position of PUTTING OTHER PEOPLE at risk. I cringed that you actually admitted to running that load at 55mph. However, we all know or perceive that you've probably run it faster than that...

Well, we have pictures of your vehicle and your general location. Nothing to stop anyone of us to make a call or even email to local PD for making an awareness/caution notification.

Get your big boy pants on...

See that green thing in the signature picture below? That's my truck. Nothing about that truck, and nothing in any statements I have ever made here or anywhere else, would lead a rational person to believe that I would do those things that you imply, above, that I do. I lose respect for those who employ straw man arguments. Intellectual dishonesty is rarely the only form of dishonesty that an individual is comfortable with.

If it hits the news that a young family in Iowa has been killed by some putz driving an overloaded second generation Dodge Ram, and there's any reason at all to suspect that it's your daddy's truck that was used, I'm going to direct the law to this thread so that there's undeniable proof that you were told that what you're doing is dangerous to other motorists. That's a promise.

Okay guys, please settle down. I don't want us all to become enemies all over this.

Yes this is putting this truck way beyond it's capacity. I see where all you guys are coming from. Tis dangerous. Full ton dually on the way.

No need to report it to any law enforcement. I am gonna push on the full ton dually coming.

Yes you all are right. We shouldn't be pulling that much with this truck. No more 15K runs. I realize I have been wrong. Thanks for bringing me to my senses. I want to keep us all safe.

So what would be the safe towing limit for a 3500 dually?

Thanks for the article HeyYou. Looks like I have some convincing to do... Maybe it's about time to part with this truck? I would hate to but we need to be able to tow heavy loads. Last year for hay we did all the towing with our truck. Most of the hay loads are around 12K with the flatbed, around 9-10K with the stock trailer. Probably too much still?

If you go to dually you will be borderline needing a CDL so you have to keep that in mind...

Ok, thanks for the tip. AFAIK in Iowa the CDL is calculated by the weight of the rear axle(s) on the vehicle, not by trailer weight. Correct me if I am wrong.

So do you think a dually could handle 15K?
