Default I.O.D. troubles

New guy here. I have done some searching, but I haven't found anything specifically the same as my issue.

I just purchased a "work" truck. It is a 99 Dodge Ram 1500. My OBDII didn't have power. I checked all the fuses except the Air Bag fuses and the IOD fuses. After checking for obvious shorts and such I went back to the IOD fuse. It was blown. Once replaced my dash lights and parking lights turn on and stay on. If I turn the brightness control to off the front parking lights shut off but the rears parking lights and dash lights stay on. Is there a computer or module that might be the cause of this? If it was a short wouldn't the lights stay no matter the position of the brightness control switch? I did remove the head light switch and found one wire that appears to have been added (soldered and heat shrinked) to one of the stock wires. It appears to have been severed. Apart from removing the entire dash to check for breaks and shorts does anyone have any ideas where I should go?

Forgive me if I did not follow proper etiquette with this post. I am new here. I can say you guys have fixed multiple issues with my used Dodge already.

You have some odd stuff going on there...... There is a thread in the tech section here somewhere, with "service manual" in the title, you should be able to download the 01 service manual from there. (it's gonna be pretty much the same as your truck) Grab that, and go digging thru the wiring diagrams, see if you can find a commonality between the systems that are being weird.

Thanks HeyYou. I cannot find the thread you speak of. I might not be looking in the proper place. Any chance you might link it for me? If not it is cool. I'll keep looking.

In furtherance of trouble shooting my issue, I installed a new Head Light Control Switch. No change in symptoms or issues.

Turns out the PO wired the stereo into the IOD line. Took the shop 1 hour to fix. I fixed the Cruise Control system and everything was perfect. Then on the 13th an Old guy ran a stop sign and wrecked my truck. Totaled the truck. The front end is in the motor bay. Insurance is Paying $2500 minus a $400 deductible. I am looking at a 2500 with a V10 that is in my price range. The only thing I don't like is the Cab does not have the two opening back doors. It still has the ability to pull my 5th wheel. Anything you guys know I need to look at on this V10? Not a four by four, but it is a great looking truck.

We want pictures of the carnage!!!

The V10 is pretty sweet, expect mileage a bit lower then the 318/360, but not much different.

Loads more power, not a ton of aftermarket support. It will pull whatever you put behind it

But do the usual lookover, oil, trans fluid, etc....

I'll get the pic loaded later tonight. Drove out to see the old girl again, so I am bushed. She has 175k on the clock. Looks like a slight oil leak under the left valve cover. It appears the Plenum needs to be removed to change it so that makes sense. The motor is unbelievably quiet. No knocking or tapping at all. Looks like it needs a thermostat housing gasket and maybe some breaks down the line. The old Girl will snap your head back if you punch it. I thought the 5.9 gas motor was strong. Good Lord!! I loose power mirrors, Tilt, and door locks. It has OD, a weird looking but functional cruise control, and 5th Wheel brackets welded in. The main detraction is the 95 does not come with opening rear doors. It is not a deal killer, but man am I gonna miss those doors. Ohh! and the horn does not work.

V10 doesn't have Plenum issues
