Torque converter not locking?
Lock up - or no loclk up is controled by a solenoid on the VB. Coule be bad connection, debris blocking it, TC failure, or problem in VB with low pressure. I would put a set of gauges on it and see what is going on.
Any chance on elaborating on the gauges lol? When it was rebuilt the guy firmed the shifts up shall we say and it'll snap pretty good. It still shifts the same though just no lockup. I'm gonna clean the main connector and drop the pan cause I need to change fluid anyway. I just hope it's not gonna be pricey.
i would still take it back to the rebuilder and ask them to check it out. if they know what they're doing, they should be able to determine what's wrong in just a few minutes and likely won't cost anything for diagnosis unless they have to dig into it.
Ok so the other night I was driving home and the truck just didn't feel right, and I noticed my rpms higher than normal. I stopped and cut the od switch off and took off and counted the shifts and didn't notice the tcc lockup. I stopped again cut it back on then off again, took off again and then it locked up, cut the switch on again and all was good. Now this morning on the way to drop the kid off at school all was good, on my way back it again wouldn't lock up. Nothing I could do would make it lock. I pulled out the trusty sct and I'm getting a p0734 which appears to be a 4th gear ratio incorrect or something. The trans is rebuilt with maybe 10k on it and I doubt it's that high honestly. I'm fixing to go the the dr and Im gonna clear the code and see what it does now. I'll report back and any help would be great.
This is somewhat similar to what I had happen last fall. At idle I would have engine rpm flare. Shifted fine all gears, until getting up to 4th. Then there would be engine rpm flare.
One test I did was tapping the break pedal to see the response on TCC lockup. I'm having trouble recalling exactly, but I'm sure I did it with O/D on and off. I was trying to isolate whether it was TCC lockup issue. This was also recommended to me by a reputable tranny contact.
I ended up replacing the TPS for kicks and that was the Jeopardy answer.
I did not get any codes though...
Hope that helps.
