Default Tranny problems even after replacement...need help

Ok so a few months ago i traded a jeep cherokee for a 99 dodge ram with the 5.2, when i got the truck the trany shuttered fron 2nd to 3rd and the input seal leaked so i knew it didnt have much life left but i drove it anyway. After a month or so it developed a new problem. Every once in awile whail i was driving it would shift threw the gears and then all the sudden it would downshift straight to 1st and wouldnt shift untill i stoped and put it in park and shut off the truck, or drove 10mph at 2800-3000 for at least half a mile then it would shift for a lil while amd do it again, then the next day it wouldent do it at all.

So i figured my tranny was about shot so i bought a rebuilt one from a guy for 400 and he gave me a 30 day warranty but with my work schedule changing its taking me that long to put it in. But i got it in and took it for a test drive yesterday and the tranny is doing the exact same thing as the old one, the down shifting to first and then not shifting. Whuch leads me to believe that its not the actuall trans.

Any ideas on what it could be?

I need my truck its been out of commission for long enough.

Any ideas and help is greatly appreciated

Most auto parts stores will do a scan for free.

Do the key trick. Turn the ignition on, but don't start the motor, then off, three times. Third time, leave it on, it will display codes on your odometer. Write 'em down.

Go to FAQ/DIY section and download service manual. Pretty simple, but be careful and do not break off the tab.
