On my way home from work today I began to notice my truck was shaking alot more than normal. Usually it does a little, but not to this extent, and just randomly started today. It is a 5.2 with 111k. In the past 3 days it has also stalled from idle about 3 times, and i have noticed the idle to be lower than normal, around 600 rpms. The truck is stock besides a flowmaster muffler. It seems to shake only when I am on the gas. It will go into overdrive but shake like crazy, so I keep it off for now. It seems to shake when I use more of the engines torque than horsepower, only thing I can think of. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

 

Shakes when on the gas? Sounds like misfire and possibly clogged catalytic converter

Thank you for that thread, I literally just replaced the cat, maybeee has 1000 miles on it, as well as the exhaust. I'm thinking its some kind of misfire.. or the plenum?

 

Plenum leads to fouled plugs (and clogged cats...) which can cause serious misfire. (not to mention leaning out a cylinder or three...) Definitely sounds like you have a miss there. Yank the back two plugs on the passenger side, and see what they look like.

 

Alright, thank you, I will do that tomorrow, I'm going to try and drive it as less as possible. Now if they are all filled with carbon, I basically should replace all plugs, wires, and the plenum right? I think I might just save all my pennies and do a Hughes Air Gap kit. Seen good things about it.
Now if I pull the plugs and they look fine, what should I look for then? Still look at the plenum?

 

Look at the plenum anyway. Chances are good it's blown.

Do a compression test as well, post back the findings, before you spend any $$$$

 

I had the same issue.... youll notice the shaking gets bad as soon as the torque converter locks up right between 40 and 50mph depending on how quickly your accelerating. In my case the misfire was due to a cracked header causing an exhaust leak in the collector area where I couldnt see it.... you may want to run some seafoam though it before swapping the plugs to remove as much carbon buildup as you can.
I recommend checking your plugs and doing a compression test before assuming you need to rip the plenum apart... it may or may not be related... cats do plug with mileage due to worn out engine rings and poor compression as well.

 

Btw these trucks do have distributor caps and rotors that wear out and should be changed when doing a tuneup.... funny how most members here seem to overlook suggesting this stuff and go right for suggesting ripping the intake apart.
