Default lift kit

im new to the form and i had a few questions about the lift i plan to buy within the week. first off, i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 ext 360 5.9l. Me and a buddy plan to instal the lift but my main concern is how to go. I want to put 5' suspension and 3' body lift, and i want 37x13.50 17 toyo open country m/t tires. He thinks i should 5' suspension lift with 35x12.50 17 nitto mud grapplers. he said with 37's the truck will be to doggy and will not have any power. and he said im going to have to regear it. fyi this not gonna be a wheelin' truck, more show than anything. i would just like thoes questions answerd. thank you

He's absolutely correct assuming you have stock 3.55 gears.

It will suck booty with 35s and even more for 37s.

This is just answering directly w/o knowing any of the condition of your rig.

But, an accurate statement nonetheless.

regear ~$800 to 1200 out the door. Completely dependent on the shop(s) that care to do it and their attitude and the markup on the parts.

Search is your friend. Lots of links are posted to parts.

Still gunna be a dog, and that's not good on your transmission to be running 35's on stock gears. Be a better choice to just regear than ruin a transmission ya know.

For highway use overdrive won't be usable if you want to use cruise. However, disabling O/D with 35's / 37's runs the engine around ~2300rpm at ~110km/h which isn't terrible. You'll often feel the tranny hunting around for the right gear in everyday driving.
