Default Ball Joints

I had my ball joints replaced recently and the mechanic used the correct joints for the lower, but used the joints for a 4wd for the uppers. Is that a problem?

Does your upper have the rivet style or press in? The ball joints on my '01 are rivet style.

It was my assumption that all the 2wd rams were rivit. But then I may be wrong since mines 4wd.

No not all were riveted. I think they started the rivets in mid 98. My 95 has pressed in and my 01 has riveted.

Could you take a picture and post it? Need to do photobucket or the like. It would be the best way to see what he did.

If the top requires riveted style and he used a press in style I can't see how that would work unless he welded them in, but still, why?

The new ones are bolted in because you have to remove the rivets to change them. IIRC depending on make of the ball joint they are the same 2 or 4wd. I think on Moog has different part numbers. But, having seen and installed both, I saw no difference.

Well yes, you'd bolt in new ball joints for 2wd. But aren't 4wd normally press in?

ALL of the 4x4 bj's are press in. If the truck required bolt in joints, and the tech put in press in joints, that is an accident waiting to happen.
