Question 2001 ram very doggy. HELP!?!

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 with the off road package. No upgrades other than 285/70r17 tires. I have changed the spark plugs and wires hoping it would help a little. yet there was little to no difference. Its not showing any codes. What could it be?? Oh and i'm new to Dodge Forum!!

Well, if you DO have the OR package, you should have 4.10 gears in your axles, which are just fine to turn those 285's.

Check your plenum. I have a feeling that is what's wrong here.

That also has crossed my mind. But when I bought the truck 2 years ago I was told it was replaced. He had receipts and everything. But I think he just did the stock gasket. Not the Hughes performance replacement. How should I go about checking this. My mpgs are low too. Oh and thanks for the warm welcome 😳

Yeah, just because it was replaced 2 years ago doesn't mean much. If it's blown, it's blown.

You need to pull off the throttle body, get a dentists mirror or whatever, and shine a light down in there, look for oil pooling in all four corners.

Your mpgs will either be high, or in the toilet with a blown plenum. Mine were in the toilet was I was going through .5 qt per 100mi. You will also have pinging issues.

Look for the Be All End All Plenum thread at the top of this forum. That should answer most of your questions.

If the plenum gasket was blown , then your catalytic converter and 02 sensors would be toast and should've been replaced after plenum repair. A compression test would help get an idea of overall condition of motor. Bad upstream 02 will run rich and dump extra fuel. Velkommen DF.

At 105K miles, it's time for a new one anyway.

you have an 01, you have the death flash. which would also explain the doggyness. if you want to get rid of it... contact hemifever. he can get you a tuner with 3 canned tunes for 265. mine will be here in a few days. then ill really be able to feel the difference.

when dodge_dude said this forum will spend your money faster than you can yourself.... its true. i just spent close to 4k on engine parts thanks to a few awesome members on here

What is the death flash? I've never heard of it. What does the tuner actually correct
