Default high idle

i have a 97 ram 1500 with 5.9l, just bought truck it has a high idle 1200rpm, runs great. check engine light came on noting idle sensor and o2 sensor, also #8 misfire. cleaned plug, idle sensor, codes went away but still has high idle. took off hose from breather and it has an excessive amount of vacume. plugged it off and it idles perfect????? i've heard anything from manifold, gasket to stuck valve?

welcome to df.
replace PCV valve.

its sucking too much vac from engine and pulling it through from the breather vent you plugged.

Get PCV from dealer...not but about $4. After you replace that, let us know if it is fixed and if ot, we can go from there.

i'll try the pvc valve, it was doing this before i plugged the vent tube. after i plugged the tube, it idles perfect. i was told to pull the pvc and if it rattles, it is good, mine rattles, is there any truth to this? thanks.

rattling indicates that its not all gummed up, which generally means that its good in one direction (the ability to vent).

but according to your test where you plugged the opposite side vent, that cured your problem, which indicates your pcv is over-venting.
