A hole in the intake with nothing plugged into it? That would be problematic....

i decided that im gonna pull off the distributor. Should i take off the manifold again to do it? in the FAQ it said i dont have too but seems like it would be crazy trying to do with it on. i really was a dumbass thinking i could half-*** the cam shaft and cap back on and im paying the price for it. Maybe i will try and just remove the sensors and vacuum lines and throttle body and see if thats enough room. Thanks for all the help and i know some of my questions have been stupid but im just in a rush to get the truck going again. so there are no pics in the FAQ section (i cant view them for some reson) i had a q or two about taking it off.
Where is the bolt and clamp he talks about? and if i mark how the distributor comes out and put the new one in the same way, does it need to be re timed? or should i be ok?

well not to be rude but it seems pretty prominent and you should be able to feel it on the back of yours. i cant get a pic because its in the back of the manifold. again its about 1 inch in diameter and is pretty clearly on the back of the manifold. I tryed plugging it and starting it and it made no difference. i am skeptical that it does anything. i am really worried about that distributor at least the cap because we took someones advice and put zip ties on. but the cap still feels loose and the pick up coil is not held down underneath it because when we were drilling out the broken screws the holes to hold it down were broke on it. so maybe its the hole but in all reality i feel it has something to do with the distributor. maybe i wont pull the distributor but i would like to puill the cap and pick up coil and try and put a new one in and see if that works.

^ That's what I was gonna say. But 1996 models didn't have EGR, so either it's a manifold off a different truck or it's one that just was sposed to be plugged.

I would agree except when I pulled it off there was nothing on it. Unless something fell of but an extensive search revealed nothing. Also another prominent symptom is when the Rpms drop during rough idling there is a high pitched sucking or almost screeching noise
