At the very least the tranny needs to be unbolted and pushed back out of the way.

Op if you do have a rod knock, just putting in new bearings will not cut it, waste of time and money. The motor needs to come out and the crank ground/cut to new specs and re-sized bearings installed. If you keep running it and it is a rod knock don't expect it to last much longer and more damage is being done costing more in repairs.

Edit: 3 hrs to R&R the motor VS lying on your back working a heavy crank over your head, moving the trany back, hope not to gouge the crank with the rod bolts. I would pull the motor any day.

Hey ya'll my bad about getting a lil excited about someone experiencing the same issue thats plagued me for about a year now!!!!!!!!!!!!urgh!!!!!!!

Any how for those that want specifics its a tick not a knock mine isn't all the lifters ticking simontaniously or something that would even sound like a 97 nissan pick up? lol w 230,000 miles on it.

I doesn't happen until the truck has warmed up and out of open loop mode so obviously once it warms up then it starts to slowly come about into a passive loud but calm and annoying tick that can be heard from 20feet away but not when my foot smashes that pedal to floor out in Phoenix,AZ! or when I'm just puttin along lookin for something to do either? only at idle or after the trucks has warmed up ? I'vegone and tightened all the rocker arms to torque twice now. It will solve the problem kinda temporarily but unfortunately it comes back quicker each time? I;m sure its not the kick down band or what ever my friend had mentioned to me before?

I would like to ask something to those that have done this on a dodge 360 before ONLY! please.......................

What are the parts needed to redo everything on top of the piston on up to the rocker arms such as rods, valve, valve seals and rocker arms and etc.....

Now if I open her up once again I just want to make it worth mine while ya know?
So on that note I'll try to record the sound to show everyone what the hardest but probably simplest but annoying dang problem I've attempted to tackle on this red bull!

Links for the parts would be greatly appreciated if possible?
along with tips on what to make sure I do and also what to look for while inside?

She's got 144,000 very well kept up my father passed it on to me a few years back mostly garaged kept during it's life span too.
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab Sport 5.9L and heavy duty suspension/tow package and 3.92/RE yes to whom that asked if it was a california truck I believe because I don't have a smog pump but I have 2 cats 4 o2 sensors and that resonator thing plus a tank for a muffler down there? why would Dodge even nah forget it? next time guys? LOL

Thanks for actually jumping on top of it though you guys rock!

The sound originates from the rear of the motor near where the oil pan meets up against the block. On the passenger side I believe. So you want me to narrow it down further than that?

I Luv Havin A Big Red,

Two things.

First, it would be best for you to start your own thread. You've tried to hijack the original poster's thread twice now.

Second, you ramble and it makes it very difficult to pick out what's important from what isn't. If this is such a big problem then sit down and get organized. Make a hand written list of the core problem. What it is, where it is, when it does it, why it started. Then make a list of the things you have done to fix it.

Once the lists are done, transfer them to a NEW thread here on the forum. Re-read it, and delete any babbling you typed by getting excited or carried away or by getting sidetracked.

Seriously, keep it simple man. What's wrong...what have you tried, and we'll jump in and help as best we can...just not in this thread since this is someone else's thread.

Im the 2nd owner of this truck so I ll have a fresh start and know exactly how its maintained from here. thanks for all the input fellas!!!

12gage, that's a tough break. But at least youare looking at it as a positive stating that you can start over and know how it is being maintained. Kind of went that route as well, but without lower end issues.

Some things to address as you build - or at least what I would do in your situation. Get the new Odessa heads. They are better than OEM. Change out timing set on new block with double roller set. And go ahead and do the plenum plate to keep from having to go back to that later. Make sure cat is good and if not, replace it. Consider a SCT tune form www.hemifevertuning.com.

Good luck (noe that I have helped you spend a few dollars), and keep us posted on your progress. Hope the rebuild goes well.

And +1 on what Sooper said. Some of us are old - and following two sets of problems confuses us like sh!7!
