I know there's threads all the time about this all the time, but i cant find the right answer anywhere. I have a ram with a 5.9 an currently have 3:55 gearing, just recently i got wide offset rims an 33x12.5 in tires. its gets around like before in town an mpg didnt change....going above 40mph though it has no ***** an gets bad mpg... i do mostly city an 55mph range driving not alot of highway...whats the gear ratio i should get??

I would be REALLY tempted to go with 4.56 gears...... 4.10's would put RPM back around where they were with the stock tires, but, if you are gonna do it, going a bit lower doesn't cost any more, but will sure be noticeable in your style of driving.

Might be alot of gear for when he does do highway driving though.. Unless he steps up tire size 4.10's might be best.. I like my 4.10s with 33's and it does good towing.. with 35's 4.10s are fine also but not towing... Id say 4.56's would be great with 35's and wanting to tow.. Towing heavy though that changes..

The lower gears would only bump RPM about 200 or so at 60MPH. But, around town, the engine wouldn't have to work nearly so hard to get things rolling. Sure, he may lose a little on the e-way, but, if that is only a small percentage of his driving..... he would more than make up for it in day to day driving.
