Oh, Well I'm a pipefitter by trade so I was going to just use some Schedule 80 Steel Pipe (Roughly 5/16" thick walled) from work, but do you thing It'd be more of a benefit to use the DOM Tubing?
For what you are doing sched 80 should be fine, tig it up and go hard. All of my work is being done in DOM but that's me and it's for long-arms for the front end. DOM is not cheap by any means, as you are a pipe fitter you should be able to get it cheaper than most can.
Here we go, I found about 13' of this in the pipe yard. Here's a short sample that somebody used for a practice weld. Schedule 120 2" Pipe (Actual I.D. is 1 1/2" (38mm))
A little different than traction bars, but yeah like ladder bars but with 2 pivot points each instead of just one on the frame. Similar to the lower bars that are on the front of these trucks from the factory.
