Default v10 transmission slip?

This is my first post here. the truck is 97 v10 2500 4x4 just bought for a farm truck, it has 82000 on it and has been a plow truck its whole life. dont know much history on old owner and how its was taken care of. the problem is trans keeps slipping out completely.happened at the bak i sat there with foot on brake with trans in drive when i went to leave she just reved. if i shut the truck off i could hear a click when i restart and im good for about a minute then it lets go and revs up. started it over 13 times to get back home.so i grabbed computerand had trans temp sensor code as well as solenoid and also o2 bank2 sensor 1 which should be irrelevant. so i dropped the pan, which didnt have much clutch material on the bottom like i thought there might be, so i cleaned it up, replaced transducer and solenoid with dealer parts adjusted the bands rear was a bit sloppy, and filled her up. No luck!! i will scrap the truck before i rebuild trans. help save this truck!! thanks for help!!

Scrap it then I guess. You've done what can be done as far as I know.

she grabs a little after i restart but then loses it. i can feel the minor clunk into gear after the restart but no clucnk switching gears after it slips. have to say i love my mopars and have a soft spot for this truck i dont mind wrenching on just dont wanna turn it into a money pit. truck, parts, and reg i only got 1500 into it cant see spending 2500 on a rebuild.

So if you have a chevy or ford, how much for a rebuild on a tranny for one of those? If you like the truck and it's in good shape, I say go for it.

You have done what any of us would have done to try to fix it yourself. Choice is yours on getting it rebuilt.

Since you have so little in it it may not be so bad to have the transmission properly serviced.

In the long run what's cheaper; 1- New truck or 2- rebuilding that transmission OR 3 - getting a junkyard transmission and hoping for the best.

If you scrap this truck and get another Dodge you'll still be looking at transmission issues at some point in time.

If you scrap this truck and get another make you could still be looking at transmission issues at some point, or motor problems... Who knows....

My transmission is on borrowed time too, just not as bad as yours.

Any tests you guys can think of? torque converter? trans relay? only other info i can give is this was my first run with the truck before hand i changed the oil, took off the ghetto intake that was all crapped up, cleaned the throttle body, poured in some fuel cleaner, and replaced the CAD.There is also an aftermarket trans cooler in it where they bypassed the factory cooler for itaccompanied with trans temp sensor and pyrometer. I know previous owner just put new battery and fixed fuel line. when i pulled the gov solenoid there was a peice of black plastic stuck to it.? anything u guys could think of i dont mind checkin everything i can.

Check fluid level. Gotta check it in neutral. Won't get an accurate reading in park.

If fluid level is good.... time for a rebuild.
