Tranny, RPM and Speed
When I'm at 50mph my rpm is at 2000. It goes into 3rd gear at around 40 and when I hit 48 it shifts down 200 rpm and it reads 50mph at 2000rpm. Any faster I go the rpm goes up with it. What could cause this? I've been topping out at 50mph because I'd rather not go above 2000rpm while traveling on the highway.
I know when I had transmission issues in my 96 it did indeed give me multiple codes but no check engine light.... when I asked about it I was told the "check engine" light is just that. Check engine not transmission or drivetrain. It makes sense if you think about it. since if it was for all codes it would say "check computer" or "drivetrain"....
connect a code reader to it and I bet you'll see codes...
others hear will argue you should see the light but I didnt... now the "OD off" button should be coming on automatically when the OD malfunctions or the transmission overheats.
also if you bought it this way,
make sure the right transmission is installed...it sounds funny I know but previous owners have been known to take some crazy shortcuts to sell their truck.

the tranny is orginal... the family that had it before me did no changing except a new 3.55 diff... how do i read it with a code reader if it is '95? OD off light only comes on if i press it
Far be it from me to lend a hand - but you don't by chance have anything else occurring like the rpms constantly surging do you? I had that and from searching here decided to put in a new throttle position sensor. It began to act properly after a few blocks.
