Default Help with IDing this thing!!

OK, I have a question with something on my 99 3/4 2500 8800 GVWR truck that I know the experts here can help me with so her goes " I have all the towing stuff on this truck everything and at the rear there is a what looks like a solenoid of some type with a rod connected to it one end at the solenoid and the other down at the rear end" I asked a service rep at the dealer once and he told me it was a "Brake proportioning adjustment valve that when hauling something heavy it adjusts the brakes on the rear to handle more of the stopping." Does this sound right?? I have never seen one of these on another 3/4 yet and I have been looking dealer installed option?? Any ideas out there?? Thanks and great site

It is exactly what the guy told you. I believe only the 8800 trucks have them. Big bucks to replace it(if it's even available). I think even the dealers bypass them.

The parts truck I got my 4x4 parts from had that. I didn't know what it was and I know my truck didn't have it so I just didn't transfer it over to my truck. How exactly does that work? It looked similar to the leveling sensor on luxury cars.

Quite the opposite. Bypassing it will give you full braking power at all times. So, when loaded, it will be the same as if that particular little device was there. When UNloaded though, the rear brakes will be EXTREMELY effective.....

Yeah, you're right. I must've been thinking backwards or something
