This is draining it during oil change.

how effective are these at catching the oil? it looks to be the nozzles are real close together and just an empty canister with no seperator or baffle inside that would allow for alot of oil to flow right through. they are about 20$ on ebay.

the pcv valve comes out nicely. the plastic pipe piece on the passenger valve cover just spins around easily but will not pull out. when I had the covers off I tried everything to get it out without breaking it but it just spins in the grommet.

I broke mine when I replaced it.
I think the problem is the grommet; I can pull the PCV out of the 76 easy, but it's grommet is a little softer.

Oh, wolfie, thanks for the link. I guess I'll have to go shopping here soon.

the cheap $20 ones on ebay are empty canisters. the more expensive ones would have something in it separate and hold the oil. this is why i chose to go with a oil/water separator. it is cheap and the bowls are usually clear so you can see how effective it is.

Nah, seafoam it. That will work well enough. You mostly need to stop the PCV from sucking in oil so it stays off your valves and pistons.

finally got the diy catch can installed, and after a few days it seemed to be working nicely. I want the "in' hose hooked to the pcv, and the "out" going to intake, correct? makes sense. Name: oilcatch_zps2fd7574d.jpg

Yes, you are correct. Nice job, I just did this with a cheapo spray gun filter(I have a thread). You should add the pics and the info on how much and where you got the part's to that thread. Only thing I would do different is to use fuel hose instead of the air hose. I want to make that thread a diy with different options, and your's is the first with a different option. So add that info.

that looks like the $12 oil/water separater from lowes.

looks good. did you seal the drain valve on the bottom? only reason i ask is i think the valve at the bottom need so much pressure to keep it closes and if you have 0 pressure it will stay open and you could have a tiny vacuum leak. it does look like it is doing its job tho. i just pressed the drain valve on mine the other day and the stuff that came out smelled extremely gassy.
